    Toxicology

    History

    Since 1975, the teaching of the discipline Occupational Diseases began, and later also Clinical Toxicology for students of the specialty “Medicine”.

    The assistant professors of the Department provide training in “Occupational Diseases and Toxicology” for students of the specialty “Medicine” (III year in Bulgarian and English).

    For the students of the Medical College-II year, training is provided in “Occupational Diseases with Toxicology” in the specialty “Public Health Inspector” and “Food Toxicology” in the specialty “Dietary Nutrition Instructor”.

    The Department of Occupational Diseases, including clinical allergology, is a base for the specialization of doctors in the specialties “Occupational Diseases” and “Clinical Allergology”, and the Clinic of Clinical Toxicology – in the specialty “Clinical Toxicology”.
    It conducts training modules in “Clinical Allergology” and “Occupational Diseases” for other specialties.

    The Department is currently preparing three specialists in “Clinical Allergology” and one in “Clinical Toxicology”.

    The high professional qualifications and the presence of two or more specialties of the teaching staff create conditions for a quality educational product.

    Research

    The specialists working in the Department participate annually in competitions at the national and local level with scientific and practical projects, subsidized by various institutions.
    Priorities of the Department are topics related to:

    • diseases of the musculoskeletal system from overstrain and vibration exposure;
    • allergic diseases of a general and occupational nature;
    • industrial toxicology;
    • dust-related lung diseases, etc.

    Doctors specializing in occupational diseases, clinical toxicology and clinical allergology participate annually in scientific forums – conferences, symposia and meetings of scientific communities in Bulgaria in the relevant specialties.
    Assoc. Prof. Zlatka Stoyneva, as a leading neurovegetologist, has made a significant contribution to the development of the neurological segment of occupational pathology science in Bulgaria.
    The Department’s staff has the potential to meet the challenges posed by the new requirements for the teaching and learning process, treatment and diagnostic, and research activities.
