MU – Plovdiv gave the official start of the Academic year for its first-year international students

The Medical University of Plovdiv solemnly welcomed its first-year international students with an official open-air ceremony in strict compliance with anti-epidemic measures.

More than 796 candidates from 36 countries took part in the entirely online candidate student campaign and distance entrance exams for foreigners. After the entrance exams and the subsequent ranking, 60% of the candidates were admitted. More than 400 foreign students were enrolled after the first ranking. The second enrollment of the admitted students starts today.

The enrolled students are from 26 countries, and with the largest share – 33%, are those from Great Britain, followed by those from Germany – over 14%, Italy and Greece – 11%, Ireland – 4% and Sweden – over 1, 5%. There are students from almost all European countries, as well as from Bangladesh, USA, India, Zimbabwe, Syria, Jordan, Turkey.

The students with the highest score 36.00 – Dimitra Stefanidi and Melina Tsovili, both from Greece, received their student books and the emblematic for MU-Plovdiv gifts – a medical outfit and an atlas of biology, from the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Marianna Murdjeva.
Prof. Murdjeva addressed her best wishes to all newly admitted students with the message: ” Study for knowledge, not for grades or diplomas, study for your future!”.


This official event was attended by students, parents, and also professors from the University. Special guests were diplomatic representatives of the countries whose citizens will study at the University: Korhan Küngerü – Consul General of Republic of Turkey in Plovdiv; Rajesh Lal – Second Secretary of the Embassy of India in Sofia; Dr. Mariana Cholakova – Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Plovdiv; Giuseppe Di Francesco – Honorary Consul of Italy in Plovdiv; Victoria Raeva – Secretary of the Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Plovdiv, as well as representatives of local government and business.

For the seventh consecutive year, the Academic management of MU-Plovdiv opens the new academic year for its international students with a solemn ceremony entirely in English. The University is the only University in the city of Plovdiv that opens its Academic year twice, holding a special welcome ceremony.

The rector’s management takes special care of the international students so that they feel a part of the large academic community of MU – Plovdiv.
