The Department of Languages and Specialized Training at the Medical University of Plovdiv will host a Festival of Languages. The event, dedicated to International Mother Language Day, is organized jointly with the Consular Club in Plovdiv and will take place on February 20th at 5:30 p.m. in the foyer of Academic Building 2.
The festive initiative will involve not only students from the Medical University of Plovdiv, but also young people from Colombia and Jordan who are on exchange at the university under the Erasmus+ program. Students from Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”, Agricultural University – Plovdiv, University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv, and the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts – Plovdiv will also take part in the program.
The theme of the festival is “Greetings and Toasts.” Attendees will hear how people greet each other in Spanish and express their philosophy of life in Venezuela, Costa Rica, and Colombia; what wishes are offered to newlyweds in Syria; how gratitude is expressed in Jordan; which word Greeks most frequently use in their greetings; and how guests are welcomed in Russia and Turkey. Participants from India, Japan, China, the Philippines, and other countries will present blessings typical of their cultures. Greetings will also be delivered in Konkani (the southernmost of the continental Indo-Aryan languages in India).
Each language featured in the festival program will be accompanied by a visual presentation of its writing system, as well as cultural elements representative of different traditions.
The celebration will open with a performance by the vocal group UniMed Voices, which brings together students from various parts of the world. Musical performances will be presented in Filipino, Chinese, Turkish, and Bulgarian.
