In 2025, the Department of Languages and Specialized Training at the Medical University of Plovdiv marks its 25th anniversary. The opening event in the university’s diverse jubilee program is the Festival of Languages, dedicated to the International Mother Language Day.
Students from across the university will take part, presenting excerpts from renowned literary works in Russian, Turkish, Czech, French, and Dutch. Guests will also have the chance to experience the melodic flow of Middle Eastern poetry in its original language. Participants will share, in their native tongues, the wisdom of ancient Greek philosophers, the spirit of Italian explorers, and the traditions of the Punjabi community.
The program will also introduce expressions from Shona, Nepali, and Akan, offering fascinating insights into these cultures. Attendees will uncover linguistic connections between Hindi and Bulgarian, learn about the Japanese folk hero Momotaro, and enjoy a live performance in Neapolitan, a language recognized as part of UNESCO’s cultural heritage.
Each language featured in the festival will be brought to life through visual displays of its writing system, alongside cultural highlights such as landmarks, traditional attire, and authentic cuisine.
The event will also include two musical performances by the student UniMed Voices ensemble. The Festival of Languages will be held on February 21 at 5:00 PM in the foyer of Academic Building 2.
