About us
The history of the present-day Library and Information Center dates back to August, 1945 when a university library was established at the time of the foundation of Plovdiv State University.
In June 1950, the two university faculties became independent higher schools – I. P. Pavlov Medical Academy and V. Kolarov Higher Agricultural Institute. The university library was separated and the library at I. P. Pavlov Medical Academy began its own development with a collection of 18 000 volumes.
Today the Library and Information Center is located on 1 737 square metres comprising one main and four branch libraries. The collection includes over 173 000 library items: books, dissertations and periodicals in Bulgarian and other languages covering all areas of medical science.
The library provides modern infrastructure and facilities. The library services are carried out by an automated library system integrating the newly introduced RFID technology.
The comfortable and functional library environment includes reading rooms, computer labs, doctoral students reading rooms, group study areas and a digitization studio. The libraries provide 375 users seats, 75 of them computer-equipped.
Free Internet access, including wireless connection is provided on the library premises as well as remote access to online resources for registered library users.
The mission of the Library and Information Center is to support the educational and research activities, the knowledge exchange, cultural development and innovations, to create and develop a relevant library information base and services to meet all the needs of the academic community at the Medical University of Plovdiv.
