Мedical University – Plovdiv provides comprehensive assistance to its students from the Republic of Ukraine.

Medical University – Plovdiv is one of the first universities to call on its academic community to join the National Charitable Campaign of the Bulgarian Red Cross for Ukraine – #BGforUkraine. An appeal was sent to all lecturers, students and staff of the University with specific instructions on how everyone can express empathy and information about the most necessary things to the people of the fraternal country.

The Rector’s Management Body, headed by Prof. Marianna Murdjeva, MD, PhD, HMM – Rector of the University, at its meeting on March 1st ,2022 took immediate steps to provide comprehensive assistance, including financial, for its students holding Ukranian citizenship.

There are 52 students (35 active and 17 interrupted) and 2 postgraduate, citizens of the republic of Ukraine at the university.

All 35 currently studying students from Ukraine are housed in student dormitories. The Rector’s Council decided to exempt them from the accommodation fee in the dormitory until the end of the summer semester of the academic 2021/2022 year, considered from March 1st, 2022 to July 31st, 2022.

Medical University – Plovdiv provides 38 beds in the student dormitories additionally in order to accommodate families of the students from Ukraine.
The management body of Medical University has constant contact with Ukranian student and ensures them assistance and support with the help of the Student Council and the Dormitory councils of student dormitories.

The Rector’s Council unanimously decided to grant one-time financial aid to students from Uktaine in the amount of 300 BGN. At the initiative of the students from Medical University-Plovdiv these funds will be at the expense of the budget of the Student Council.

From the very beginning, an operational commission was set up to coordinate the specific steps and actions to help Ukranian students.
A meeting of the Rector of MU-Plovdiv and the Rector’s team with the students from Ukraine is forthcoming to identify their most urgent needs in this rapidly changing environment.

One thing is for sure: Medical University- Plovdiv will remain true to its motto”Dedicated to humanity” and will continue to show courage, mercy and support.
